Jingle Bells - Christmas Workshop 2013 @ Roohi's Collection.

At Roohi's Collection, it is my aim to keep the crafts simple and children friendly. With the same intention, I selected the crafts for my Christmas Workshop for 2013. This workshop was unique and interesting because children did EVERYTHING on their own. Right from cutting papers, boards and ribbons to finishing their crafts with embellishments etc.

Craft 1: Sugar Candy Bookmarks

Craft 2: Christmas Tree. Small Christmas Trees were made by the kids to decorate their own study tables. Children were given half a sheet of chart paper and they had to cut out a semi circle from it. They were then asked to join both the ends of the semi circle to form a cone. After they finished pasting their cones, they had to stuff their cones with shredded papers....I think that was the best activity. After filling the cones, kids were supposed to cover the base with a circle to form a sturdy base. Then I gave them a long piece of green Christmas weed with which they had to cover their cones. Last but not the least, they decorated the trees with thermocol beads, flowers and star shaped bows.....and here you go....Christmas tree is ready to adorn your tables!

Craft 3: A very simple craft. Take a paper plate and cut a ring from it. Take artificial plastic leaves and stick around the ring. Tie a red coloured bow on it and decorate your wreath with embellishments. Simplest wreath ever!!!

Craft 4: Santa Snow Globes.
Easy to make Santa Snow Globes were created by recycling empty glass jars.

Projects Undertaken

Day Care centres are gaining a lot of popularity day by day. Especially in the busy times for your child's care for working parents pursuing their careers, A Day care centre has become a preferred choice over the traditional options of a regular baby sitter or a nanny.

Therefore, setting up the décor according to the kids is of prime importance. We made a welcome banner to suit the style and taste of children. This would definitely attract them to come inside the day care.

I pondered a lot and decided to make bed time stories turn into a fun activity. All parents are aware that children like to hear stories when they are off to bed but converting story telling session  into fun is something really easy to do with my story cards. I decided to make story rollers for kids' story telling session as pictorial representation of what is being told has more impact on the kids' minds.

Story Roll- The Story of A thirsty crow.

Story Roll- The Story of A Hare and A Tortoise.

All these animals were cut and painted to create a jungle look on one of the walls of the learning centre. The choice of animals was done on the basis of their vibrant colours and more importantly their popularity amongst the kids.

Rainbow hanger created for the main room has all the colours of the rainbow with clouds made of cotton. Blue and white ribbons holds the rain drops.
Another picture is also created with cotton, penguins and some paints, where cotton is used to depict snow.
Basically here we will be talking of Rainy season and Winter season.

Kids' favourite; The Angry Birds.
Especially created for one of the rooms of the day care centre where kids would be playing. One of the walls of the play room which will adorn the famous angry birds will not only attract the kids but also will give them a feel good factor about the place over all.

A big picture aquarium will be put up, till the time we replace it with a real aquarium.

I hope all the Art works made by me for a day care centre, would be liked by all. I will keep posting my work.

Thanks

Recipe 5 - Choco Pinwheels

PREPARATION TIME: 20 MINUTES
YIELD :15 mini choco pinwheels

Ingredients:
Marie Biscuits- 12 no.
Coconut Powder- 1/2 cup
Drinking Chocolate Powder - 6tbsp
Milkmaid -1/2 tin
Milk Few tsp
Polythene Wraps -3 to 4 sheets

*You can use Sweetened choco powder for chocolate powder.

Method:
First crush marie biscuits into fine powder and sieve it if any lumps. Now mix marie biscuit powder with chocolate powder and half of the milkmaid. Knead gently and make firm dough. Grease hands with milk to avoid stickiness.
Flatten the prepared dough between polythene sheets. Roll using rolling pins to thick  Roti. Keep aside
In another vessel mix together coconut powder and rest of milkmaid. In the same way make big ball and roll it thin disc.
Now place this coconut(white) rolled circle on the top of the chocolate(brown) rolled circle. Start folding both the circles together to form a cylindrical roll just like swiss rolls. Do not fold polythene sheets along with it.
Now just wrap this cylindrical roll in a foil. Fbeeze it for 15-20 minutes.
Remove the roll from freezer and cut into small rolls and it will look like Pinwheels with brown and white combination. If the roll sticks to the knife while you cut then freeze again till set.

Note:
Substitute milkmaid with milk and sugar if you don't have ready in hands.
Add few tsp of milk is the dough consistency is too tight.
If the dough consistency is loosen add some more biscuit powder.
If you find difficult in peeling out  the rolled brown or white layer from sheets freeze it once for 1-2 minute. This helps to remove faster without break.
The chocolate should be refrigerated after every use to avoid melting.

My work in Dry Pastels

Dry Pastels work.

All of you here, who doesn't know, must be wondering what Dry Pastels are?. For such and some more curious lot, the answer is right here. Dry pastels (Soft) are most widely used form of pastel. The sticks have a higher portion of pigment and less binder, resulting in brighter colors. The drawing can be readily smudged and blended, but it results in a higher proportion of dust. Finished drawings made with soft pastels require protecting, either framing under glass or spraying with a fixative to prevent smudging; Hairspray also works. White chalk may be used as a filler in producing pale and bright hues with greater luminosity.

Hope you all enjoy with pastels
